Woman dies after delivery, authorities forms inquiry committee

A 27-year-old woman died today after delivering a baby, with her family alleging negligence by staffers of the civil hospital here, police said.

Following the incident, an inquiry committee was formed by health authorities, they said.

Kamaljit Kaur, a resident of Jhallian Khurd village, delivered a girl this morning at the hospital. But, as she continued bleeding, doctors referred her to the PGIMER in Chandigarh, police said.

She died on the way to the state capital, they said.

The woman's husband Charanjit Singh has alleged that his wife died due to the negligence of the hospital's staff in a complaint to the police and health authorities.

He has also demanded strict action against hospital staff and doctors, the police said.

"On the complaint of the husband, an inquiry committee has been constituted. It will give its report in five days. If anybody is found guilty, strict action will be taken against them," Civil Surgeon Rupnagar Dr Harinder Kaur said. said.

She said Kamaljit had died due to Post Partem Hamerage (PPH).

Family members of the deceased had blocked traffic near the police lines on the Chandigarh-Rupnagar Highway for more than an hour. Local MLA Amarjit Singh Sandoa also joined the protest.

Later, Leader of Opposition and AAP member Sukhpal Singh Khaira also reached the spot and he persuaded the agitating people to lift the blockade.
