Different marking pattern in All-India Engineering Entrance Exam

The All-India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE) today offered different marking patterns, creating some confusion among students as nearly 12 lakh candidates took the test for admission into NITs and IIITs.

The paper, to be completed in three hours, carried 90 questions for 432 marks. These questions comprised 30 each in mathematics, physics, and chemistry. Each subject had 24 questions of four marks each and six questions of eight marks  each.

"Last year, the questions carried either four marks or five marks each. This year, the questions had four marks or eight marks each," said Sahil Upadhyaya, a student of Laxman Public School.

"Inclusion of differential marking has confused students and those who were able to allocate time properly among the different questions with different marking schemes were able to do well," said Ajay Antony, course director, IIT-JEE training, at TIME institute.

Students who qualify will be eligible for admission into National Institutes of Technology, Indian Institutes of Information Technology, and many other prestigious institutes.

"The questions were of average standard. I did well in
all the papers," said Snehashis Mitra, a student of Mount St
Mary's.
The chemistry paper was easy, while physics was moderate
and mathematics was tough, felt Sahil.
The Central Board of Secondary Education, which holds the
test, said the exam was conducted smoothly.
On the basis of performance in AIEEE, separate rank lists
will be prepared for B Tech. and B Arch/B Planning. Score card
indicating all India rank and state rank with total marks and
marks in each subject shall be sent to all candidates
appearing in AIEEE, the CBSE said.
Candidates scoring above a certain cut off percentage
of marks will be called for counselling. The result of AIEEE
is likely to be declared on or before June seven this year.
Nearly ten lakh students had appeared in the test last
year. PTI BKM
