Mumbai university faces trouble lodging complaint

The Mumbai university, which has detected 342 fake documents including degree certificates and marksheets, has alleged that the BKC police station is refusing to accept all cases, thereby delaying the matter.

University officials have alleged that the police are asking the examination department to file each case in the respective police stations where the holder of the fake document lives.

“The university has received around 342 fake documents in the last three months and we are finding it difficult to get the BKC police station to accept the cases and lodge an FIR against each,” said Vilas Shinde, controller of examinations, Mumbai university.

On Friday too, university officials had to face lot of difficulties before the police lodged an FIR against one Sanjay Patel, who has been using a bogus Bachelor of Commerce marksheet, dated 1982.

Another university official claimed that each time an official is sent to the police station with the fake documents, they are rejected.

“The BKC police try to reason with us saying that since criminal cases are being filed against the individual who holds the bogus fake document, we should lodge the complaint at the police stations where each of these individual resides,” said the official.

However, said the official, in many of these cases, the university is not in possession of the individual candidate’s address since these are bogus documents with fake details.
