Visvesvaraya Technological University allows students another shot at exams
Students of the under-graduate engineering courses at Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) who have completed the course, but failed to clear some papers now have another chance to clear these examinations.

The varsity on December 11 announced the extension period for those students who are yet to clear some papers. “This issue was approved in the academic senate and the executive council held on December 8. We are finally giving students another chance to clear pending subjects,” said Prof KVA Balaji, registrar, VTU.

Students who were admitted to the BE/MBA/MTech/BTech and MCA courses between 1998 to 2005 batches, and completed the course, but failed to clear a few exams during the duration of the course, have now been permitted to appear for the Dec 2009/Jan 2010 and June/July 2010 examinations. A couple of years ago, the university had given students of the 1998 to 2001 batch a two-year extension to complete pending papers, but students did not avail of it.

“We have been receiving requests from several students asking for a further extension, and now we have granted them extra time. However, if they do not make use of this extension properly and complete the pending papers, then they have to forget about obtaining an engineering degree,”
Balaji said.
VTU has been giving its students a four-year extension, over and above the four-year course duration. “There are nearly 800 candidates who are yet to clear some subjects. The university will not provide them with degree certificates until they clear all the subjects. We have given them an extra chance,” remarked Balaji.

Candidates wishing to take the examinations should give an undertaking to the university with the application form. They are required to pay a penalty of Rs2,000 per subject, in addition to the examination fee.
