Visvesvaraya Techonlogical University ’s syllabi will be flexible

The Visvesvaraya Techonlogical University (VTU) is planning to introduce a new syllabus for undergraduate engineering courses from the academic year 2010-11.

“We have already prepared the syllabi for the UG engineering courses. It is flexible syllabi aimed to help the engineering students prepare themselves, in tune with the demands and trends of the job market,” said Dr HP Kincha, vice-chancellor, VTU. He was addressing the students at the 9th VTU convocation on Thursday.

“The VTU syllabi revamp shows the university’s core competency and it is a landmark development in the field of engineering in the state and also in the country. We revise the UG syllabi every four years. The MTech  and MBA syllabi get revived every two years and the MCA syllabus every three years,” he said.

“We have sent a proposal for the amendment of the Visvesvaraya Technological University Autonomous Statutes-2006 and are waiting for the chancellor to give his assent. A statute is also waiting to be approved to appoint faculty members for engineering, technical, management, applied science, humanities and architecture courses. These too will have far reaching effects on the academic programmes of the university in future,” said Kincha.

The university has completed the computerisation of the University Seat Number (USN) generation. The software for the affiliation process is also ready and will be tested. It will be used from the academic year 2010-11.

“The Research Portal of the VTU is scheduled to be launched shortly. This portal will have information such as, list of guides, their research area and list of theses published till date etc. The portal has a built-in search mechanism that facilitates retrieval of any stored information,” he added.
