Develop software to measure radiation of mobile towers: Karnataka High Court

State government should develop a software to measure radiation and give it to public, the high court has observed.

While hearing a petition filed by Mohandas Shetty, a resident of Vasanthnagar, in the matter pertaining to the establishment of mobile towers against the permissible law limits, Justice Ram Mohan Reddy said that they (the state government authorities) should give details whether they can develop it or not by next hearing.

"If you can't develop it, ask the company owned by Steve Jobs to do the job," the judge said.

The matter pertains to a petition filed by Shetty, who contends that he resides in Vasanthnagar, where there is a mobile phone tower of a local service provider. The counsel for the petitioner claimed that it is within 24 feet of the residential complex while the rules stipulate the tower must be beyond 35 feet. He has contended in his petition that this will create health problems for people. He had also said that a written complaint was given to the BBMP officials and health department but no reply was received. The court had also lashed out at the Government in the last hearing asking the authorities whether they are sleeping without discharging their duties.

The bench also suggested for amendments in Karnataka Municipal act and Town and Country Planning Act earlier. When the matter came up on Friday, the bench said that Government should make some initiatives to develop a software and do it at the earliest.
