Arrest of IM men gives hope in Bamgalore's twin blasts case

A special inquiry squad of the city Central Crime Branch (CCB) police rushed to New Delhi on Wednesday to gather information on the role played by the six arrested Indian Mujahideen (IM) operatives in the Chinnaswamy Stadium twin blasts.

The team is headed by BN Nyamagowda, assistant commissioner of police, special inquiry, CCB, and includes inspectors KS Ashokan and NH Siddappa.

Soon after the arrest of IM operatives was announced, the police contacted the Intelligence Bureau in Delhi to get confirmation of the six terrorists’ involvement in the low-intensity explosions that injured about 15 people, including policemen, moments before the IPL match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 17, 2010.

“The accused have confessed to their involvement in the Bangalore twin blast case. We need to know the locals who helped in planning the bombs in the stadium. After that, we would be able to arrest some more persons in the case,” said a senior police official.

The police plan to seek permission from a local court in Delhi to bring the six accused to Bangalore for interrogation. However, due to legal procedure and involvement of the arrested persons in other cases like German Bakery blast in Pune and Jama Masjid shootout in Delhi, it will take some time before the accused are brought to Bangalore.

“The Delhi police will hand them over only after their investigation is complete,” the officer said.
