India is facing an acute shortage of skilled workers. Even though there are colleges training students to be industry ready, there is hardly anything for blue collar workers.

To address this problem, CII in association with CHF International launched SkillConnect, a portal, on Thursday.

SkillConnect will cater to the entry level needs of industry in the blue collar segment. Vocational training providers would train the youth in these skills. This is one the steps being taken to train the unskilled blue collar workers and make them industry ready.

In Karnataka too, the problem has assumed serious proportions with a dearth of skilled personnel in sectors such as construction and manufacturing.

“We find many skilled people, especially in the unorganised sector, who struggle to find proper employment,” said Aroon Raman, former chairman, CII Karnataka state council.
