BANGALORE
After completing 1,000 days in office, BS Yeddyurappa now wants to concentrate all his energies on making Karnataka a model state.
Having just survived another crisis, chief minister BS Yeddyurappa on Sunday assured party national president Nitin Gadkari that he would not precipitate any more crises and concentrate his remaining term to turn Karnataka as a model state in the country.
“I will not go to Delhi again carrying a crisis and asking you to resolve it. I will concentrate all my time and energy to develop Karnataka as a model state in the country. I and my ministers will go to the people after the budget session of state legislature and fully devote ourselves to implement development works,” Yeddyurappa said, addressing a huge gathering organised by the party at Palace Grounds to celebrate BJP government’s completion of 1,000 days in office.
Yeddyurappa turned emotional and almost choked as he launched a scathing attack on the opposition. “The situation does not warrant for dissolution of state assembly. So there is no question of dissolving the House. Opposition Congress and JD(S) are engaged in dirty tricks to dislodge me. I will continue for the remaining term. At the same time, I will see that the opposition Congress and JD(S) are wiped out. They will remain in opposition for the next 20 years,” he said.
Playing to the gallery, he became emotional while recalling his struggle to build and bring the BJP to power. “I was moved seeing old photos of myself, Eshwarappa, Ananth Kumar and others during our struggling days to build the party,” he said.
He also announced that he would bring in a system to plug pilferage of food grains and funds allocated for various projects. Listing out the achievements of his government, including the proposed farm loans at one per cent interest, he assured the electorate that he would not betray their trust.
The chief minister expressed the confidence that his missionary zeal for development in the next two years would bring the BJP again to power with a thumping majority of over 150 seats in the state assembly and even help the party to come to power at the Centre in 2014 by winning at least 25 of the 28 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
Eshwarappa wants probe
Party state president KS Eshwarappa appealed Gadkari to send the party’s central probe team to the state for a probe into land allegations. “We should come out of the allegations of corruption,” he said.
Gadkari had earlier said that BJP would send a national committee to look into the allegations of corruption and nepotism against the chief minister in the aftermath of allegations of land scams in December.
