In wake of the blast outside Delhi High Court on Wednesday, Karnataka has been put on high alert and security along the coast has been tightened.
State police and Coastal Security Police (CSP) are working in tandem to ensure fool-proof security. Additional director general of police (internal security), Bipin Gopalkrishna, who is also the commandant of CSP, told DNA a four-tier system had been guarding the coast. He said the four units — Navy, Coast Guard, CSP and Karnataka Police—had intensified patrolling and were exchanging information regularly with neighbour states Goa and Kerala.
Gopalkrishna said CSP was fully equipped for not just patrolling but also for chasing, intercepting and apprehending the intruders in the sea.
He said CSP had fast boats, modern weapons and communication equipment, which have given it additional strength to counter any misadventure. The ADGP said, besides this, they along with the Coast Guard, were keeping an eye on the uninhabited islands near the coast.
Confirming this, inspector general of police (western range) Alok Mohan told DNA that Karnataka Police and CSP exchanged information throughout the year and security experts of both the forces analysed the challenges from time to time. Mangalore city police commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said policemen — in uniform as well as plainclothesmen — had been deployed in all the sensitive areas in the city. Although police were already busy with overseeing security for immersion of Ganesha idols, additional arrangements have been made in wake of Wednesday’s blast.
Localities with foreigners under police scanner
After the blast, Bangalore city police commissioner BG Jyothi Prakash Mirji issued orders on Wednesday morning to all the police officers to tighten security around residential areas where foreign nationals are staying, hotels, malls, theatres, court premises (including high court), bus stands, railway stations and other places where people gather in large numbers, such as churches, temples and mosques.
Mirji said the entire police force had been deployed for heightened vigilance. Commando force of internal security wing and KSRP have been asked to be prepared to reach any area in the city, if need be. Platoons of City Armed Reserve and KSRP have been deployed at important places.
Mirji has requested people to alert the police if they notice any suspicious item or person.
