Over 1,000 BJP workers from Karnataka who headed to Jammu to participate in ‘Tiranga Yatra’ to hoist the national flag on Republic Day at Lal Chowk in Srinagar were forcibly brought back to Banglore on Monday.

The angry BJP activists staged a protest even as they alighted at Yeshwantpur railway station. Raising slogans against the railway department and the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre, the BJP workers refused to leave the station till arrangements were made to reach Srinagar.

They accused the UPA government of supporting the agenda of the separatists while acting tough against patriotic youth. Led by former MLA Sunil Kumar, they filed a complaint against Indian Railways at Yeshwantpur police station for forcibly stopping them.

“We are not going to abandon our mission to hoist the national flag at Lal Chowk. Already, two groups of 150 members each have reached Delhi. Tomorrow, one more team will join them,” said BJP MLA Vijay Kumar.

The party workers were forced to return to city as the special train was halted on the track by the Maharashtra Railway police when it reached Ahmed Nagar on Saturday night. They slammed the central and Maharastra railway police for blocking their way.

“It was a special train which we had booked and paid money for the railways, but the train was hijacked by Maharastra railway police. The railway police told us to close all the doors and windows as Maoists and Naxalites were planning an attack,” said Kumar.

“The railway police of Maharastra are the real Maoists. They detached the engine and brought it to the rear. Within minutes, the train started running in the reverse direction,” he said.

The party had paid Rs57 lakh for the train journey including security charges, but no security was provided for the passengers.

“Maharstra railway police handed us to Karnataka railway police after we reached the Govudagere Road junction. While returning, we staged protests at all stations,” he added.
