Mangalore, Delta in sisterly embrace

Mangalore and Delta, a city of British Columbia in Canada are now twin-sister cities.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed on Tuesday between Louise Jackson, mayor of Delta City and her Mangalore counterpart Rajani Dugganna.

The MoU enables the cities to pursue economic and urban development goals together. It also empowers the people of two cities to find common socio-economic growth by exchanging views on a regular basis.

Speaking about the two cities Jackson said, “There are similar interests, similar problems to tackle and similar goals to achieve. Some of the important issues include environment and preservation of culture. We are also looking at having common trade and commerce through our respective chambers of commerce and industry.”

Dugganna said that both the mayors will strengthen ties between the two cities in the field of economics, culture and business, promote cultural exchange and build a bilateral relationship, wherein best practices of both cities are exchanged.

The delegation from Delta, lead by Jackson, will be in Mangalore for three days. It will leave the city on October 14 after visiting important places in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
