Marital discord leads to Bangalore woman’s murder

A man reportedly smothered his wife to death in his house in JP Nagar on Friday night and then spent the entire night besides her dead body. The accused, Venkatesh, allegedly killed his wife, Pushpa, 23, over a marital discord, said the police.

The incident came to light on Saturday morning, when Venkatesh’s mother, Sanjeevamma, knocked on the door of Venkatesh’s bedroom and got no response. Sanjeevamma, who was aware of the marital discord in her son’s life, called on the neighbours for help. When the neighbours forced the door open, they found Venkatesh sitting next to Pushpa’s lifeless body. They immediately called the police, who rushed to the spot and arrested Venkatesh.   

DCP (south), HS Revanna, said Venkatesh confessed to the crime and reasoned that Pushpa used to abuse him, his mother and his family without any provocation.

Incidentally, Venkatesh fought with Pusha a few months ago, after which he had gone away without informing anybody about his whereabouts. When his family lodged a case with the police, they traced him to Tamil Nadu about 15 days ago. He was made to return to his family. His differences with Pushpa remained unresolved.

The police said that on learning about Pushpa’s death, her relatives attacked Venkatesh’s household and alleged that Sanjeevamma was also involved in the murder.

Revanna said the police would thoroughly look into the case and act against Venkatesh’s mother if she is found guilty.
