A Toyota Innova car has been giving sleepless nights to the assistant manager of advocates' association at the Mayo Hall court.

Nandish S had availed of a bank loan to buy the car in 2008. He sold it nine months later, after he had run into financial difficulties.

"I couldn't transfer the ownership since I have availed of the loan to buy the vehicle," he said, and identified the buyer of the used car as Punith CM. The buyer, who gave Rs1.30 lakh, had promised to pay the monthly installment of Rs28,430 to the Cholamandalam Bank, Nandish said.

Six months later, the bank informed Nandish that had defaulted in repaying the loan. "I complained to the Jnanabharathi police. On December 21 last, the police brought both the parties to a compromise. The buyer agreed to pay Rs6.60 lakh, and gave me a cheque in front of the police," Nandish said.

But the cheque bounced. Nandish said he again approached the police, who refused to register a case. The man also alleged that Punith threatened him of dire consequences if he approached the police again.

"If the cheque has bounced, he should go to the court and file a case. These are civil matters. The police cannot solve such matters," inspector B T Chidananda Swamy said.
