It won’t be wrong to say that Alia Bhatt is one of the top actresses of this generation. Whether it’s her performance-oriented projects or her commercial blockbusters, she has the audience and critics rooting for her. Raazi’s super success at the box office is the recent proof of this 25-year-old’s star power.

But she doesn’t want stardom to affect her. “I ’m happy my films are doing well, but I still know that there’s a long way to go. I am not delusional when it comes to all this. I do realise that Varun (Dhawan) has more mass following than I have and there’s no shame in admitting that. He’s doing well for himself and I’m trying to build my audience, too. So, I don’t let all this talk affect me,” she says.

Ask her if there’s anything apart from acting that she would like to try and pat comes the response, “I have thought of producing a film.” Alia continues, “I don’t know if I want to set up a production house of my own. If I find a film that I feel is good and I should back it, I will. I won’t take any money for that and maybe produce it. That’s the only way I can be involved with a movie, as a producer.  I want to back great content.”

Given that daddy Mahesh Bhatt and mentor Karan Johar already have their respective banners,  it’s easy for the award-winning actress to learn the ropes of the business. But Alia says she is ‘not discussing it with anyone’. “It’s at the back of my head. It just depends on the opportunity,” she adds.

NOT DIRECTION, BUT TV MAYBE

But talk about direction and she has a different story to tell. “I don’t think I can ever direct a film. It’s too much of a responsibility,” smiles the Gen-Y star. Apart from all this, unlike many of her contemporaries like Sonakshi Sinha, Arjun Kapoor and others, she has never taken up a TV show as well. Prod her about it and she tells us, “I am open to the idea of TV for sure, but I may take it up a few years later.”

KEEN ON WEB SERIES

Another big avenue that has opened up for actors today is the digital platform. A lot of actors, including Saif Ali Khan, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui have green-lit some digital shows. In fact, Lust Stories which brings together four prominent directors — Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee and Anurag Kashyap — has several artistes like Bhumi Pednekar, Manisha Koirala, Vicky Kaushal and Radhika Apte playing pivotal roles. Alia says she’s ‘game to try the space’ as well. “If it’s a web series or a film for an international digital platform, I’m very keen on doing it. That’s something I’m pretty open to trying because it’s like shooting a film only,” she states. She admits to getting a few offers already but ‘nothing that is a big step ahead’.
