Blast from the past: When Deepika Padukone opened up on Ranbir Kapoor's infidelity: 'I actually caught him red-handed'

The rumour mills are still abuzz with reports that Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh may get married as soon as this November. The two constantly show their love for each other on social media and are spotted together pretty often. However, in the midst of all this, recent reports started cropping up saying that Deepika is having secret meetings with Ranbir Kapoor, and that the two might decide to patch things up and become an item again. One look at this article from way back in the day, when Ranbir and Deepika broke-up to be specific, however, will shut down any rumours of this happening anytime soon. 

Ranbir and Deepika met in 2007, and love reportedly blossomed between the two on the sets of Bachna Ae Haseeno in 2008. However, their relationship was short-lived as Deepika admitted to have caught Ranbir cheating on her, and Ranbir soon was paired up with Katrina Kaif.

In an interview with a leading magazine some time after her break-up, Deepika opened up about the turmoil she faced and the explicit details of the breakdown of their relationship. "For me, sex is not just about physicality; there are emotions involved. I have never cheated or strayed when I'm in a relationship. If I'm going to be fooling around, why would I be in a relationship? It's better to be single and have fun. But not everyone thinks like that. Maybe that's why I've been hurt in the past. I was foolish enough to give him a second chance because he begged and pleaded, despite the fact that everyone around me said he was still straying. Then I actually caught him red-handed. It took me a while to get out. But having done that, nothing can make me go back. That ship has sailed," Deepika had said.

"The first time he cheated on me, I thought there was something wrong with the relationship, or me,” the actress added, emphasising that it was a while before she realized that she wasn’t the one in the wrong there. “But when someone makes a habit of it, you know the problem lies with him. I give a lot in relationships, and don't really expect much in return. But, infidelity is the deal breaker. Once it comes in, respect goes away, trust goes away and these are the pillars of a relationship you can't f*ck around with it," Deepika had said.

The Padmaavat actress had admitted that the break-up was quite tough on her. "It made me realise I should not be so attached to one thing or a person - after the break-up the fact that I had to pick myself up. I cried a lot after my break-up. But I have become a better person and I thank him for that," she added.

However, at this point, all those involved have moved on to bigger and better things in life and their careers. Ranveer and Deepika are currently very happy and are both working on their respective projects. Ranbir, meanwhile, is busy working on Ayan Mukerji's Brahmastra and is dating his co-star, Alia Bhatt.
