IPL 2019: In the just-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 edition final between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, MI lifted the trophy for the fourth time.

In a neck-to-neck situation, with enough of drama and tension, MI managed to win the championship at the iconic Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad.

Batting first, MI managed only 149 for 8 but defended the total with combined bowling effort and some game awareness on the field to clinch the coveted trophy by 1 run.

However, with this match, ended the cash-rich event, but the memories will stay for a long time in the minds of the people.

Here is a list of controversies that took place during the 2019 IPL:

1. MS Dhoni losing his cool and walking onto the field

In the match between Chennai Super Kings and former winner Rajasthan Royals, Mahendra Singh Dhoni lost his bearings on the cricket field for the very first time.

He rushed into the field of play to confront Indian umpire Ulhas Gandhe for not signaling a no ball, an act which certainly seemed out of line.

A clear waist-high no-ball to Santner was ruled out by umpire Ulhas Gandhe after trying to raise his arm. This prompted an angry Dhoni to enter the ground and literally blast Gandhe before leg umpire Bruce Oxenford calmed him and sent him back.

He was fined 50% of his match fees for this rather uncharacteristic behaviour.

2. Buttler 'mankaded' by Ashwin

Rajasthan Royals opener Jos Buttler had become the first victim of 'Mankading' in the history of the Indian Premier League when a desperate Kings XI Punjab skipper Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed the batsman in a controversial manner during their IPL match.

Buttler was going strong at 69 off 43 balls while chasing 185 runs. Ashwin mankaded the Rajasthan Royals opener without giving him any warning.

Buttler seemed furious and had a heated exchange with Ashwin before leaving the field after the third umpire ruled him out.

While it was within the rules, the wicket of Buttler created a big controversy with cricketers, experts, and fan making their feelings known about the dismissal. Many even called the action against the spirit of the game.

3. Virat Kohli on Malinga's 'no-ball'

Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli came down heavily on ICC Elite Panel Umpire S Ravi after the final delivery of the match bowled by Mumbai Indians' Lasith Malinga turned out to be a 'no-ball', which was not awarded to the losing team.

Needing 7 to win and six to take it to Super Over, Malinga's full toss yielded only one run but the big screen replay showed that the bowler had overstepped and a free hit should have been awarded.

Had it been a free-hit, AB de Villiers batting on 70 would have faced with five needed to win.

"We are playing at the IPL level. It's not club level, the umpires should have their eyes open. That was a big no-ball. That is a ridiculous call (last ball). If it is a game of margins, I don't know what is happening. They should have been more sharp and careful out there," a livid Kohli said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

4. Andre Russell slams KKR’s ‘bad decisions’

Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Andre Russell lamented the “bad decisions” taken by his team in a disappointing IPL campaign.

KKR lost six games in a row and Russell has been the biggest impact player for the team.

“We have a good team but if you make bad decisions then you will always lose games and that’s what we’ve been doing. If we had enough time, I could pinpoint a few games where if we just looked to bowl tighter in areas or bring in right bowlers at the right time, we could have won,” Russell said.

“As a professional cricketer, to be in this position is not the most healthiest position. In terms of decision, we have been bowling wrongly at the wrong time, that’s what been causing for us to keep losing in simple ways,” Russell said on the eve of the game against Mumbai Indians.

5. Kieron Pollard flips his bat in the air

In the Final match between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, an annoyed Kieron Pollard took strike near the tramline before nearly leaving the pitch, attracting the ire of the umpires in Hyderabad on Sunday.

Bowling the final over of the MI innings, Dwayne Bravo, finding birthday boy Pollard shuffle repeatedly towards the off-stump from his one-leg guard, cleverly bowled fuller deliveries outside the 'tramline' (marked for wide balls) for three dot balls.

On all three occasions, straight umpire Nitin Menon didn't signal wide as expected by Pollard, the reason being the burly batsman's big trigger.

After the third dot delivery, Pollard's frustration was evident as he flipped his bat in the air even though he didn't utter a word.

Just as Bravo got into his stride to bowl the fourth delivery, Pollard, in a mock gesture, left the stumps open and kept walking towards the side of the crease.

The umpires immediately intervened as Ian Gould, from square leg, and Menon, walked towards him to reprimand the senior player for his gesture, which was against the spirit of the game.
