New Zealand and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) wicket-keeper batsman Tim Seifert has tested positive for COVID-19 in the two rounds of testing as part of protocols before departure. Seifert, as a result, will not travel with rest of the New Zealand's IPL contingent and will not be on the charter flight.

Seifert failed both his pre-departure RT-PCR tests and thus will be placed in isolation for a period of 14 days, as per New Zealand Cricket's statement. Seifert has quarantined himself in Ahmedabad where the Kolkata franchise was based for their third phase in the 2021 edition of the IPL, which was suspended on Tuesday (May 4) after a number of cases emerged inside the bio-bubble.

Seifert will be transferred to Chennai for treatment in the same private hospital where the Chennai Super Kings batting coach, Australia's Mike Hussey has been kept after he had tested positive for COVID-19.

"Once Seifert has undergone treatment and the statutory period of isolation and has tested negative for COVID-19, he will be transferred back to New Zealand where he will undergo the mandatory 14-day period of managed isolation," the NZC statement added.

"It's really unfortunate for Tim and we'll do everything for him that we can from this end, and hopefully he will be able to test negative, and be cleared and approved for discharge as soon as he's well again," New Zealand Chirf Executive, David White said.

"Since receiving the news, we've organised support for Tim and have also - via the players association, been in contact with his family to ensure they're kept fully informed and updated on developments," he added.

New Zealand's UK bound players, Kane Williamson, Kyle Jamieson, Mitchell Santner and physio Tommie Simsek have been transferred to the Maldives from where they will be travelling to the United Kingdom, where they will be featuring in the two-match Test series against England and then the World Test Championship (WTC) final against India.
