Rohit Sharma arrived in Australia on December 16 after passing the necessary fitness tests and protocols at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. However, since Rohit Sharma was not coming from a bio-bubble, he had to undergo the mandatory 14-day quarantine in Australia. After missing the Adelaide and Melbourne Tests, Rohit Sharma’s quarantine has ended on Wednesday. According to reports, Rohit Sharma, who was in quarantine in Sydney will now join the Indian cricket team in Melbourne. Speaking in the press conference after the conclusion of the Melbourne match, India head coach Ravi Shastri gave an update on the situation regarding Rohit Sharma’s availability for the Sydney Test which will begin on January 7.

“Rohit joins the team tomorrow. We will have a chat with him to see where he is placed physically because he has been quarantined for a couple of weeks. We will have to see now how he feels before we take the call,” Ravi Shastri said in the press conference. In the post-match presentation, India cricket team skipper Ajinkya Rahane also gave an update on Rohit Sharma’s situation. “We're excited about Rohit coming back. Spoke to him yesterday, he's waiting to join the team,” Rahane said.

Quarantine in Sydney

According to reports, Rohit Sharma was in quarantine in a two bedroom flat in Sydney and was undergoing some physical training in the room. Recently, there was concern about Rohit Sharma following an outbreak of the coronavirus in Sydney but the BCCI management said Rohit Sharma was not impacted by the outbreak. Rohit Sharma also did not make the trip directly to Melbourne as he had to be put up in a government selected hotel according to the rules of the Victorian government.

The Indian cricket team staged a remarkable victory as they won the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne by eight wickets to level the series 1-1. The victory was significant as India had missed key players like Virat Kohli, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma as well as Rohit Sharma. The win also came in the backdrop of their humiliating 36 all out in Adelaide, which was the Indian cricket team’s lowest total in 88 years of playing Test cricket.
