4, including passers-by, fall prey to gang war at Delhi's Burari

The dark underbelly of the national Capital was once again exposed when innocent passers-by fell prey to a deadly gang war barely 400 metres from the Burari police station on Monday morning.

In a shootout between members of the notorious Tillu gang and the equally notorious Gogi gang, four people lost their lives and five people were injured. A woman passer-by, two associates of a gang were shot dead and another man was mowed down.

According to the police, the exchange of fire began around 9 am when a Fortuner car with around 4-5 occupants came outside a gymnasium identified as "The Gym" in the Burari area. Around four members of the Tillu gang who had finished their workout at the gymnasium were marching out and heading towards their Scorpio car when a speeding Fortuner car first came and hit them from the side. While two of them managed to sit inside the Scorpio, two others ran to save their lives. As the Fortuner was approaching the members of Tillu gang, two occupants of the car got down and opened fire at them. 

Sources said that Jitender alias Gogi the most wanted gangsters in Delhi was present in the Fortuner car and put his foot forward in the attack.

Gogi carries a reward of Rs 4 lakh on his arrest and is currently absconding. His rival gangster Sunil alias Tillu is currently lodged in jail. Their rivalry goes back to their college days when both of them supported opposing candidates during the Shardanand College elections.

Sangeeta Sharma who was on her way to office sustained a bullet wound on her chest and collapsed on the ground. Mukul, a member of Tillu gang and Sanjeet from Gogi's gang were shot dead in the exchange of fire. Over two dozen rounds were fired as three other members of the Tillu gang, who in a bid to escape with the door of the Scorpio half open moving in the wrong direction of the road, sustained gunshot wounds and are undergoing treatment. Two other passers-by identified as Santosh and Vashisht Rai have sustained bullet wounds as well.

As the Scorpio car was making a bid to escape in the wrong carriageway of the road, it hit two motorists. Rajkumar succumbed to his injuries on Monday night, while Rajan, who is in his early 20s, is recuperating at a city hospital.

The Fortuner car was found abandoned in the Shalimar Bagh area with Sanjeet's bullet-ridden body inside it.
