The admission process to undergraduate courses under Delhi University's School of Open Learning (SOL) kickstarted on Monday after a delay of over three weeks.

Students can apply online for five undergraduate courses that include -- B.Com Honors, B.Com, B.A Programme, B.A English Honors, and B.A Political Science Honors. The admission was thrown open after a three-week delay which invoked protests and demonstrations by students, as the varsity was awaiting a nod from the University Grants Commission's Distance Education Board (DEB) for initiating the process. Earlier, the application process was supposed to begin on June 1, but the date was pushed to June 15.

"UGC had last month asked all the open learning school universities to submit an affidavit to the board. We had submitted the details long before the deadline passed and we got a go ahead on last Friday," SOL Director C S Dubey said. While the application process for the B.Com Programme and three of honors courses -- English, Political Science and B.Com -- will be completely online, the process for B.A Programme will be through both online and offline mode.

The offline procedure for the course will begin from July 9 and the entire admission process will be completed by August 17. While DU has already completed the registrations for the 54,000 regular UG seats in its colleges, the admissions to SOL, which enrolls over 1.4 lakh students, faced a delay for the second year.

Last year, there was a delay due to speculation that the three-year programmes will be converted into four-year degrees, which was scrapped later.
