Gearing up to implement the new URL-based system of transferring question papers to the examination centres from next year, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted Class X compartment exam using the encrypted mode. The system was used in around 211 exam centres all over the country on Friday.

The board had decided to switch to the new system following the leak of Class XII Economics and Class X Mathematics question papers in March. While it had conducted a re-test for the Class XII paper, the board decided not to hold a re-exam for the Class X math paper.

Under the new foolproof system, the examination centres would receive encrypted copies of question papers that they would need to download and print themselves under strict surveillance on the day of examination. The board had also tested the new system during the board exams in April. However, due to lack of information and resources, it could not be implemented properly and exams got delayed by more than 45 minutes.

However, according to CBSE Secretary Anurag Tripathi Class X compartment exam for Hindi A and Hindi B was conducted "successfully" by using the new system. "The exam was conducted in 100 per cent encrypted mode at 211 exam centres all over the country and at 7 exams centres abroad. The paper was conducted on time without any difficulty. The board has thus scaled another milestone in the digital conduct of exams," he said.

Officials at the examination centres also confirmed successful implementation of the URL-based system on Friday. "Initially, there were some issues like the internet speed, but things went smooth. We are hopeful of successfully switching to the new system next year," said principal at a private school in East Delhi.

Meanwhile, to avoid glitches in the future, the board is also planning to provide logistical support to examination centres like computer, printers, internet connection, photocopier and continuous power supply.
