The Delhi Minorities Commission (DMC) directed Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-East) and Station House Officer, New Usmanpur to file compliance reports regarding the fraud complaint submitted to DMC by a woman from East Delhi.

The Commission's intervention came after the police refused to register an FIR when the victim approached them, stating that she has been defrauded of Rs five lakhs by a local trust. The police, instead, 'advised' her to move the court as it was a 'civil matter'.

According to the DMC, the woman approached them with a complaint that a resident from the area took an amount of Rs 5 lakh from her to invest in some scheme and promised to return it within a year with interest. When she failed to get an increased amount as well as the seed money, the woman went to the New Usmanpur Police Station to file a complaint. The police, however, did not register an FIR and advised her to go to a court since the matter was civil in nature.

Upon receiving the complaint, the DMC sought replies from the defaulter and the Delhi Police. While the defaulter did not reply or even attend case hearings, the police continued to maintain that it was a civil matter, hence the complainant should go to a court of law.

Meanwhile, the victim managed to gather more evidence about the defaulter and found out that he had fleeced other residents in the area under the garb of Amanat Muslim Trust.
