The municipal corporations of Delhi reported at least 110 fresh cases of dengue in the last week, till August 26, taking the total count of affected people in the National Capital Region (NCR) to 945 — 435 in Delhi and 510 in the neighbouring states.
The total number of cases of malaria and chikungunya, reported till August 26, were 61 and 28 respectively, higher than last week.
Doctors and authorities have expressed concern that the number of cases will rise in the months of September and October. In Delhi, the maximum number of dengue cases were reported from south Delhi — 31 cases in the last one week and 95 in the entire year. The north and east Delhi civic bodies reported 14 and 6 cases in the last week, respectively.
"Dengue is on a rise. We are getting cases on a regular basis. We have been receiving an equal number of swine flu cases as well," Dr S P Byotra, Head of Medicine at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital said.
"September and October are the dreaded months, but even in August, we received 3-4 cases a day, making it at least 25 cases a week," he added.
