Protests against Padmaavat took an ugly turn when activists of the Karni Sena, who were protesting against the release of the movie, attacked a school bus carrying students in Gurugram on Wednesday. In another incident, a Haryana Roadways bus was set afire near Bhondsi village. However, no one was injured. The incidents took place just hours after the Haryana Police claimed that nobody would be allowed to disrupt peace in the state in the wake of the controversial movie's release on Thursday.
As protests turned violent in several other states, the attackers threw stones at the school bus, smashing its windows. However, the police said that nobody was injured. A video of the incident went viral on social media just minutes after the incident on Wednesday showing terrified students ducking and crying in fear.
Police had earlier implemented prohibitory orders in Gurugram banning large gatherings. According to the police, a group of Karni Sena activists torched the Haryana Roadways bus near village Bhondsi on the Sohna road also.
Meanwhile, Gurugram Police PRO said, "Today, some protesters set a roadways bus ablaze in Bhondsi Gurugram area. Police rushed to the spot and immediately controlled the situation. We have detained several hooligans from the spot and trying to identify other agitators. We have deployed police personnel in large numbers. Now the situation is under control and peaceful."
The officer said that the police are considering the sensitivity of the matter. "We have deployed the police force in large numbers in the city. The police personnel will remain on duty round the clock to avert any untoward incident till further orders," the PRO added.
Significantly, a few days back, Haryana Director General of Police, B S Sandhu had cautioned the troublemakers asserting that nobody would be allowed to disrupt peace in the state. The police had also said that it would provide adequate security to the cinema halls that screen the movie on January 25.
