Police bust illegal Aadhaar card racket

A 40-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly making Aadhaar cards illegally without authenticated documents in the Outer Delhi area on Sunday. The incident came to light after the Deputy Director of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) Arun Singh Rawat complained to the Outer District police.

The Deputy Director informed the police stating that residents of Mangolpuri area complained about a man who was charging more money than the authorised price in order to make Aadhaar cards.

The complaint stated that a man identified as Saddam Husein, a resident of Y block area made Aadhaar cards for residents without verified documents. Not just this Husein tried to login to Aadhaar enrolment system by bypassing fingerprint authentication.

Husein ran a shop in the area in the name of "All in one documentation' and made Aadhaar cards without documents for a mere sum of Rs 200.

After Rawat wrote the complaint, police laid a trap to arrest the accused person. A constable was sent as a decoy customer and then as another witness on Saturday.

The Constable told Husein and his accomplice that he needed an Aadhaar card. He was told to pay Rs 100 for just the printout of the Aadhaar card but then he told them that he did not have the money at the moment.

The Constable then went back and paid them. After he was called to collect his card, he alerted the police officials who then raided the location.

A case under appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Aadhaar act was registered. Further investigations are underway.
