Ed Sheeran's engagement ring sparked rumours about his "secret" wedding to fiancee Cherry Seaborn. The 'Shape of You' singer took the opportunity of BRIT Awards 2018 red carpet to clarify the situation.

Sheeran got engaged to girlfriend Cherry Seaborn in December last year. The rumours started spreading when the singer was spotted wearing a silver ring on that finger during his performance in London. On Wednesday, on the BRIT Awards red carpet Sheeran revealed that wearing that piece of jewellery is his way of showing his commitment to the relationship.

“I never saw why men didn’t wear engagement rings. It’s the same commitment either way,” he explained to Dan Wootton of British talk show Lorraine. “Cherry made it for me herself out of silver clay. I really like it.”

Sheeran also told British tabloid The Sun that he is 'amused by the fuss caused.' He also clarified that he has no intention of taking off the ring.

The singer and fiancee attended the awards last night. Sheeran performed a stripped down version of 'Supermarket Flowers' from his latest album Divide.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the duo favoured quiet dinner at Gymkhana restaurant in London over the afterparties.

The 'Thinking Out Loud' singer had earlier revealed that he has known Seaborn since he was 11. In 2015, when Seaborn, a risk advisory consultant, was working on Wall Street New York, Sheeran was in the city to perform no less than six concerts. That's when they reconnected.

"I went on tour again, and then I went to Taylor’s Fourth of July party. I was texting (Seaborn), and she was like, ‘I’m in Rhode Island at a 4th of July party,’ and I was like, ‘So am I.’ I kinda said to Taylor, ‘Can I invite one of my old schoolmates?’ The rest is history," he told People magazine

Then like how he explained in Taylor Swift's song, 'End Game,' "After the storm, something was born on the 4th of July."
