I felt I should be there for Karan Johar: Twinkle Khanna

They’ve known each other for years and are best friends, but Twinkle Khanna and Karan Johar have never worked together.

She even said no to appearing on KJo’s chat show Koffee With Karan till as late as last year (even though her husband Akshay Kumar made his KWK debut last year). And when she finally did this year — with AK in tow, she floored everyone with her wit.

Just like home

So what made the almost reclusive Twinkle finally say yes to Karan? Twinkle says, “Karan has asked me to be a guest on his show several times, but I always said no. But he is someone who has always been there for me whenever I needed him. This time, when he asked me. I felt I should be there for him too. I enjoyed myself as everything felt very comfortable. I felt as if the three of us were sitting in our living room at our Juhu bungalow and having tea. Akshay, Karan and I cracked the same jokes we usually do when we are together  and Akshay made the same complaints he likes to moan about me (laughs).”

Karan gets ‘booked’

The interesting thing is, that for the first time, Karan has kept a book on display on his sets — The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad written by Twinkle. She says, “Karan has read the book. In fact, he has read it before anyone else, as I would send each story to him after I wrote it. The nicest thing he said about the book is that it reminded him of Malgudi Days.”

WINNING THE RAPIDFIRE ROUND

Twinkle won the much-coveted coffee hamper from Akshay, armed with her usual outrageously honest humour in Karan’s ‘Rapidfire Round’. She explains her win, “On the contrary, I won the hamper because I was very diplomatic. I am not interested in ranking people.” She then turns the tables on the KWK host, putting her personal camaraderie into play, shooting off her own set of ‘rapidfire’ questions. Akshay sings for his wife and slow dances with her as the latter is finally at a loss for words.
