Anil Ambani’s new ‘game’ plan

The corporate czar wants to ‘change the rules of the game’; despite a multi-million dollar deal with film-maker Steven Speilberg, he says it’s not Hollywood but Bollywood that’s on the top of his mind.

Anil Ambani’s new ‘game’ plan

Even as people are talking about his association with Hollywood film-maker Steven Spielberg, corporate tycoon Anil Ambani reiterates that his eyes are firmly fixed on Bollywood. In one of the biggest deals in global cinema, Anil had signed a $825-million deal with Steven last year.

Anil says, “Movies speak a language that transcends borders and boundaries. Increasingly our talent is proving it. Whether it is an Indian story that captures the global imagination, or the amazing talent of AR Rahman, we are taking the world of movies as our very, very own. We are here to act, hopefully as a game changer, as we are helping the best in the business to realise their hopes as we look at our global partners.”

Anil hints that being the largest producer of Bollywood, he is working towards a plan that might even surpass all his earlier announcements. And Anil openly declares that every ‘talent’ in Bollywood will be able to realise his dream (which, in his close aides’ words, ‘if you have the talent, finance will never be a limiting factor’). Thus, Anil’s production house is all set to break the camp system that works so surreptitiously in Bollywood. Anil also hinted at the same at the party that was hosted by him and wife Tina last month.

“We want to partner with the khiladis, Khans, the coffee with Karan, Bachchans, Chopras, Kapoors and many other amazingly talented people. We want to help them discover new dreams, ideas. We want to be with them on this very exciting journey of cinema where technological wizardry meets the craft and is able to touch our lives. People can always rely on us because we will always rock on,” he adds.

If the party that was recently held was any indicator, Anil (like all other business) is on his way to being a ‘game changer’ in Bollywood. “A new world beckons, a Pandora, not of Greek mythology but the one that ushers in a big and wonderful universe that dazzles across all. So let us fly into this exciting journey of the future together,” he ends with an obvious reference to the last Hollywood blockbuster, Avatar.
