Bachchans offer prayers at Shri Jagannath Temple in Puri

After seeking blessings at several shrines in the country, super star Amitabh Bachchan and wife Jaya today visited Shri Jagannath Temple in Puri, and offered prayers at the 12th century shrine.

The Bachchan couple, who arrived in Bhubaneswar by a special flight, drove to the sea shore pilgrim town and went straight to the sprawling temple complex for darshan of Lord Jagannath.

Accompanied by flute exponent Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia, the star couple spent about seven minutes in front of the Ratna Simhasana inside the sanctum sanctorum seeking blessings from the trinity.

Bachchan enquired about various aspects of the temple including the Neelachakra (wheel atop the temple) and the kitchen inside the huge complex, said Laxmidhar Pujapanda, a spokesman of Shri Jagannath Temple Administration.

"The Bachchans were inside the temple complex for about 20 minutes and no special arrangement was made for them to have darshan," he said.

Attired in white kurta and pyjama, the 'Big B' went round the shrine before leaving the complex without offering prayers at the other temples in the complex.

The Bachchans came to Puri after offering pujas at Balaji temple, Tirupati, Siridi Sai temple, Vaishno Devi temple and Sankat Mochan temple.
