Several Bollywood personalities expressed horror at the fire in a slum in suburban Bandra that has rendered hundreds of people homeless.

Most chose to `tweet' to express anguish. Areas such as Pali Hill, or Band Stand, where many celebrities of the film world live, are located in the same suburb, on the western side.

A major fire broke out last night at Garib Nagar slum on the east side of Bandra railway station. Twenty-one persons including four firemen were injured and homes of at least 2000 people were destroyed.

"Express horror at this great big fire at Bandra," Amitabh Bachchan wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter.

Actor Arshad Warsi said, "My heart goes out to all the victims of the fire in Bandra... what an unfortunate event."

Actress Eesha Koppikar tweeted, "horrific fire at Bandra station east. No casualties as of now only some burn injuries".

Actor Riteish Deshmukh said he was shocked to see the visuals of the fire on television. "Absolutely shocked to see the visuals of a big fire at Bandra...I pray for the safety of people."

Fire also destroyed the house of Rubina Ali, who played the role of young Latika in Danny Boyle's Oscar winning film Slumdog Millionaire.
