Dream sequence

Muzammil Ibrahim says he is quite impressed with Italian and Iranian cinema. Two of his favourite films are Cinema Paradiso and La Strada.

Muzammil says, “The movie Cinema Paradiso appeals to me the most. It is a story about an ordinary man who is absolutely in love with cinema, with his entire life revolving around films. The story of the film narrates how he becomes a successful filmmaker from an ordinary man. I relate to this story and hence I think it’s one of my favourites.”

Muzammil fell in love with Italian actress Giulietta Masina when he saw her in La Strada. “She is a brilliant performer. I don’t think that I have ever seen such great acting,” asserts Muzammil. He goes on to say that he also likes the script of the movie. “It is rather powerful,” says Muzammil.

Talking about Iranian movies, Muzzamil says he absolutely loves the movies of filmmakers Majid Majidi and Akira Kurosawa. “I saw Majid’s Children of Heaven and was awestruck. The film has a mystical feel to it. And it is quite tough to make viewers get this feeling,” explains Muzammil.

The actor adds, “Similarly, while watching Kurosawa’s Dreams, one feels that they are in the dream world as well.”
