I don't mind the comedian tag: Govinda

Comedy may be an "undervalued" genre in Bollywood but actor Govinda embraces the moniker of 'comedian', so often attached to him, with pride though his future plans include an action film.

While most Bollywood stars are averse to being stereotyped, the Govinda says he does not mind the tag at all.

"I don't mind any tag, if it brings me success. And why would I have a problem with being called a comedian? It has made me successful. I am known as a comic actor by my
audience," Govinda told PTI in an interview.

But the 45-year-old actor who will next be seen in Do Knot Disturb, which marks the return of the superhit Govinda-David Dhawan duo, is quick to add that he does not
want to be restricted to the genre and wants to do a "entertaining action" film in the future.

"Why do you think I have lost so much weight?," he jokes before adding, "Action films are no more about just fight sequences, they have become more entertaining and I would
really like to be a part of an action film with stunts of international standards."

Govinda, who was voted the tenth greatest star of the last thousand years by BBC, has acted in more than 100 Bollywood movies, most of them comedies.

But what about 'meaningful cinema', would the 'Comedy King' of Bollywood ever be a part of that genre? "In my opinion, films are purely for entertainment, who wants to go see a film and then get depressed thinking about it," says the actor who is fondly called 'Chi Chi' by members of the film fraternity.

Govinda's upcoming film Do Knot Disturb produced by Big Pictures and Vasu Bhagnani's Puja Films, promises just that, plenty of entertainment.

"Me and David have been working together for some 25 years and this film will be a total entertainer, because when you put Govinda and Dhawan together, you will always get a paisa vasool movie," says Govinda, who has given some of his career's biggest hits like Hero No 1, Coolie No 1, Saajan Chale Sasural and Raja Babu with Dhawan.

"I actually play a characterless character in the film, though by the end of it he realises his mistakes. He has a beautiful wife, but cheats on her with a supermodel," says the actor.

Govinda is romancing two former Miss Universes -Sushmita Sen and Lara Dutta -- in the movie, which also stars Riteish Deshmukh and Sohail Khan.

"I have worked with Sushmita earlier. She played my wife in Main Jhooth Nahin Bolta and it was great working with her again. And as far as Lara is concerned, she is my lucky mascot. She was with me in Bhagambhag, which was a hit and then again in Partner which was a superhit," says the actor.

Govinda who came back to acting after a not so successful stint in politics, plans to stick to his day job now. "Politics is not easy, I know that and I have come back to acting now and plan to stay put," said the actor.

Do Knot Disturb, which also marks the return of Sushmita Sen to the big screen after a gap of three years, releases on October 2.
