Lady Gaga smashes MTV record with 13 nominations

Pop diva Lady Gaga has scored as many as 13 nominations at the MTV's 2010 Video Music Awards (VMAs), the most ever for an artist in a single year.

Some of the categories in which the 24-year-old singer is eligible to snag a Moonman trophy are best pop video, best dance music video, best female video, best choreography, and video of the year.

"I'm so honoured for all the little monsters and self-professed freaks of the universe, to have more VMA nominations in a single year than any artist in MTV history," News.com.au quoted the singer as saying in a statement.

She went on to say she was proud to have received an "unlucky" number of nominations - 13 - and that God put her on earth for three reasons: "To make loud music, gay videos and cause a damn raucous [sic]. Thank you, MTV!"

The awards ceremony will be held on September 12.
