Noted documentary filmmaker MV Krishnawamy has been selected for this year's V Shantaram lifetime achievement award.

The award comprising cash prize of Rs5 lakh, trophy and citation will be given away to the 90-year-old filmmaker on the concluding day of the 11th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) for documentary, short and animation films. The seven-day-long festival gets underway here from February three and two of his films 'Indian Imprints' and 'India 5555' will be screened, MIFF director Kuldeep Sinha told reporters here today.
  
As many as 41 countries are participating in the festival where films will be screened in competition and other sections including films on environment, climate change, immigration issues, Swiss-Indian film bridge, remembering  freedom legends. The inaugural films will be 25-minute 'On the Tiger Trail' by Naresh Bedi and a nine-minute 'Viola: The travelling room of a little giant' by Shih-Ting Hung from USA. 

Chief minister Ashok Chavan, I&B Minister Ambika Soni, Yash Chopra, Ajay Devgn,  Resul Pookutty will attend the opening ceremony, he said.

In the country focus, select films from Argentina and Bhutan will be screened while in the cinema legends section, biographical films made on cinema legends will be shown. The venues will be Tata, Godrej, Experimental and Little theatres in the NCPA complex.

Apart from screenings, seminars and open forum in collaboration of Indian Documentary Producers Association (IDPA) will also be organised.

The closing function on February nine will be attended by the Governor K Sankaranarayanan. Preity Zinta will add glamour to the closing ceremony. Golden and Silver conches with cash prizes will also be given away to winning films in the competition section.

The cash prize and Golden conch for best documentary is Rs3 lakh and Silver conch is Rs 1.5 lakh.
