Prateik Babbar dedicates new film to mom Smita Patil

Film-maker Kiran Rao’s debut film is up for release and the protagonist of the film, Prateik Babbar is feeling the jitters. Though the actor made his debut with Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, this is the youngster’s first full-blown role. And just as his film is up for release, the actor misses having his mom, the late actress Smita Patil around him.

Says a source, “Prateik is missing his mom a lot these days. He was only 15 days old when his mother passed away. He has been brought up by his grandparents and his aunt. Though he has no reason to miss his mom as he has lead a very secure childhood, he is missing her as he knows she would have been very proud of him today.”

Kiran’s film belongs to Smita Patil’s kind of cinema and would appeal to her sensibilities. Though Babbar is just starting out and is open to doing all kind of films and exploring himself as an actor, his first film is a tribute to the kind of cinema his mother was known for. Babbar’s character, Munna is very grounded and rooted. He plays a dhobhi who connects people, a guy who has dreams to become an actor.

A source close to Prateik says, “The film is an ideal debut for Prateik. Had his mom been alive today, she would have felt very proud and happy to see her son debut in a genre close to her heart. It couldn’t have been better for Prateik.”
