Sushmita Sen aims for more

Sushmita Sen certainly has entrepreneurship plans.

Right after she successfully finishes her I am She venture that sees selecting an Indian girl to compete in the prestigious Miss Universe pageant, she will give a lot of attention to restart her movie production arm that has been kept on hold for sometime with recession having hit the economy and producers having gone bullish with their money.

Sush says, “My company was formed as a production house and it will focus on production of quality content for sure. We have films that we have planned to do and those will certainly kick off. I know a lot has been written why the movie (Laxmibai) hasn’t started but there’s always a reason why somethings start quickly and others take a little longer. I’m so busy with the girls and Miss Universe that I can’t focus on several things at the same time. I will focus on production as soon as it ends successfully.”

Talking about her business venture, Sushmita also reveals that her I Am She contest — in which she also plays mentor to the girls selected from across India — is bringing in spotlight for her sidelined production arm.

“The company was launched to make Laxmibai (a project that has Sush playing the role of the courageous queen Laxmibai who fought the British during the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857. It has been put on hold for the time being due to recession) and other reasons.

What I thought was great at that time, wasn’t a great option after all, as six months later the market was bleeding.

But now, with all this happening, the investors are looking at investing in films but I’m looking at secure investors who believe in the films. The company stands on whatever goodwill I have gathered by working really hard in the industry and all is at stake. I certainly cannot risk my name,” Sush says.
