MOVIE REVIEWS
Here's the DNA review of Bank Chor...
Film: Bank Chor
Cast: Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi, Rhea Chakraborty, Vikram Thapa
Director: Bumpy
What's it about
You would expect a bank robbery film to be like Dhoom. Or at least in that zone. Only Woody Allen can make a film on bank robbers that is funny (Small Time Crooks) And then along comes Bank Chor. The film is about three robbers Champak (Riteish), Genda (Vikram Thapa) and Gulab (Bhuvan Arora) and their misadventures as they try to pull off a bank robbery. Unfortunately for this gang that is attempting to loot a bank for the first time, they end up getting embroiled in a scene they least expected and finally things start looking downwards. The trio becomes a part of bigger scheme of things that they clearly are not well equipped for. The comedy takes a major twist and soon starts becoming a thriller.
What's hot:
Well, Riteish Deshmukh and his gang manage to get the laughs. The trio form an easy chemistry and are extremely funny. Their Mumbai versus Delhi banter might be done to death, but the writers have managed to punch in these already heard jokes in the right spots and managed to get the desired effect. The movie has no songs apart from a few rap songs by Baba Sehgal that are impromptu and seem more like a part of the dialogues. Vivek Oberoi is impressive as a CBI official Amjad Khan. The film picks up in the second half as it takes a thrilling twist. Vikram Thapa and Bhuvan Arora are perfect for the part and extremely funny as the Delhi NCR (Faridabad and Ghaziabad) guys.
What's not:
If you were expecting an out-and-out comedy then you might find the second half a little boring. However, it is the first half that is a let down. You've seen most part of the pre-interval part of the film in the movie's trailers and hence it becomes a tiresome watch. The jokes get repetitive and the writing definitely could have been better. Rhea Chakraborty's part fails to make an impact and her act of glamorous TV journalist is blah. Sahil Vaid, who has impressed in character roles, fails to do so this time around.
What's that:
And it's unintentionally funny when he refers to himself as Khan throughout the film, which seems deliberate attempt on the makers part to cash in on his history with Salman Khan. His love interest may well have been named Aishwarya Rai..
What to do
If you like a good blend of comedy and thriller then Bank Chor is a film for you.
