Serial review: 'Arjun — Har Gunah Ke Chakravyuh Ko Todne Aa Raha Hai'

Crime detective fiction shows hold a strange fascination and yet they are few and far between on Hindi general entertainment channels. Except for CID, which has been running for the longest period, there hasn’t been any detective show worth writing about.   

Now, Star Plus has come up with a new detective cop Arjun, who promises to wipe out the crime from the city. The basic plot of the show is simple. An emergency task force comprising a team of four including Shree, Chhotu and Riya — each is an expert in his/her field of technology and research, and is led by Rathod.

They supposedly solve complicated cases. Though Rathod thinks he is the best, he cannot beat ACP Arjun when it comes to tackling the tough ones. Arjun, however, is a grim, dour, unfriendly guy with a past. His wife has been killed by a criminal and since then, Arjun’s only mission in life is to find the killer and finish him. He reluctantly joins the task force as his boss tells him that is the only way to get to the murderer of his wife. The first case had the force looking for a girl who was kidnapped. In the course of solving the case, the episode established the rivalry between Rathod and Arjun, the possibly developing romantic track between Arjun and Riya and of course Arjun’s sharp intelligence, agility and alacrity in solving the case. The second episode about honour killing was quite interesting and fast-paced. The series is all about action and there are times when it goes the filmi way, like when Arjun though hit with a bullet is able to swim, take on the goons and save the girl without as much as flinching!

Shaleen Malhotra as Arjun is good in action sequences, and his stunts in slow motion add to his macho act, but he is a little stiff in the emoting department. Every episode has a different locale apart from Mumbai. The first two episodes had Goa and Rajasthan, which is an attempt to enhance the visuals. So, if you are the kind who digs detective shows you could try this one. Some of the scenes may come across as gory but barring that, it’s a family bonder.
