Gujarat polls complete coverage: Congress, BJP try to woo voters

Sonia Gandhi raises the poll pitch
Dubbing the Narendra Modi-led government as "anti-people", Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Monday raised the poll pitch alleging the BJP-led dispensation in Gujarat is indulging in "wrong-doings".

"According to news reports, wrong-doings (hera-pheri) are going on (in Gujarat). We have known about CAG reports (talking about corruption). There is large-scale corruption in Gujarat," she told an election rally in Siddhpur.

Modi: Don't give Gujarat to strangers

Narendra Modi is addressing a rally in Patan currently. Here are some points he made.

  • You must decide who will bring development in Gujarat. For this reason, you must make sure you vote.
  • If you are going on holiday for 15 days, do you give your keys to a stranger? No. Then, how can you give Gujarat to a stranger?
  • You know me very well, know my work and know what I have done for development of this state
  • 6 crore Gujaratis know Modi very well. I have just one mantra — development of Gujarat

Modi takes on Sonia Gandhi over Congress' 'sins'
Modi now goes on to attack Sonia Gandhi, who just finished her speech in Siddhpur

  • Today, Sonia Gandhi made an appearance in the neighbouring town. She must have thought, visiting Siddhpur will wash away Congress' sins. But Congress' sins can't be washed away.
  • Soniaben said in Siddhpur that my mother-in-law had come to this town. So what? Does that mean you should vote for Congress?
  • Soniaben made a point that Pt Nehru did a lot of work of Gujarat, but she forgot the work done by the governments that came after Nehru.

Maharashtrians are unhappy, but they'll vote!
After prolonged discussions, members of the Maharashtrian community in Ahmedabad on Sunday decided not to boycott the upcoming Assembly elections. However, the meet held on Sunday morning also decided to demand from both the major political parties to ask tickets for their candidate in the next elections.

They were unhappy as no candidate of the community was given a ticket to contest in the assembly elections.

“Boycotting elections is the only way through which we can shake up both the parties and let them know that the community is upset,” a representative of one of the many Maharashtrian associations present in the meeting, said.
