Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray offered prayers at the makeshift Ram Lalla temple in Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday along with 18 newly-elected MPs of his party.

Thackeray reached Ayodhya Sunday morning along with his son Aditya and met party MPs who are in the town since Saturday evening. He then paid obeisance at the makeshift temple.

Speaking to media, Uddhav Thackeray said, "From tomorrow Lok Session will begin so before entering the Parliament all Shiv Sena MPs have come here to take the blessings of Ram Lalla. We strongly believe that temple will be constructed at the earliest."

Maharashtra will be going to polls later this year and the visit is being seen as an attempt by the Shive Sena to put pressure on ally BJP on the Ram temple issue. But Sena has maintained that Thackeray's visit should not be seen through the electoral lens.

Visiting Ram Lalla on Sunday, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray said that under the strong leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, no one will ever be able to stop Ram temple from being constructed in Ayodhya.

"We strongly believe that the temple will be constructed at the earliest. If the incumbent government, under the strong leadership of PM Modi, takes the decision to build it, no one will be able to stop them," Shiv Sena chief said.

Thackeray further said that his party has requested the Central government to bring an ordinance for the purpose of construction of the temple. "The matter is stuck in court since so many years. We request them to make a law and build the temple," he added. (Photo: ANI)

Uddhav Thackeray on being asked if his party workers will help in the construction of the temple the same way they helped demolish the Babri Masjid in 1992, he said, "If need be, it will be done."

"Both Shiv Sena and BJP are adherents of Hindutva. BJP must respect the feelings of the people who made them victorious in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections," he said. (Photo: ANI)

Earlier on Saturday, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut had said that Thackeray is fulfilling the promise he made in November that he would visit the temple again after elections.

Raut has also said the Ram temple would be constructed here under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as the majority in 2019 General Elections is for the same.

"We don't want to take any credit over the construction of Ram temple. Earlier also we had said that it would be constructed under the leadership of Modi and Yogi. The majority in 2019 polls for the BJP led NDA is for the construction of Ram temple," Raut added.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Ayodhya a week back to offer prayers at the makeshift Ram Lalla (or infant Ram) temple. His visit, the first after the Lok Sabha election results were declared, was apparently aimed at reiterating support for the construction of a Ram temple at the disputed site.

The title suit over the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid site is being heard by the Supreme Court.
