Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati on Tuesday appealed to workers of her party and the Samajwadi Party to forget their past differences to fight the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
On Saturday, the BSP and the SP announced an alliance in Uttar Pradesh to unitedly fight the BJP.
"Forget past differences and ensure victory of all joint candidates of the SP and the BSP. This will be my ideal birthday gift," Mayawati said at a press conference here on the occasion of her 63rd birthday.

SP president Akhilesh Yadav later visited the BSP chief and presented her with a bouquet and a shawl on her birthday.
Mayawati said Uttar Pradesh, which is India's largest state, will decide who will be the next prime minister.
"UP decides who will come to power at the Centre and who will be the prime minister. The BSP and the SP must fight together, setting aside their differences and ensure the victory of all 'gathbandhan' (alliance) candidates," she said, apparently hinting at her prime ministerial ambitions.

Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav's uncle, Shivpal Singh Yadav on Wednesday warned the former to not trust his new ally, BSP supremo Maywati.
Referring to the infamous '1995 Lucknow guest house case', Shivpal urged his nephew to be wary of Mayawati who had then levelled several allegations against Samajwadi party leaders, including him.
While addressing a rally at the SP stronghold Chandoli in Uttar Pradesh, Shivpal said that Mayawati had then accused him of sexual harassment.
"Behenji (Mayawati) had levelled allegations of sexual harassment allegations against me. I had said that time that I am ready for an inquiry, I am ready for Narco test. But I wanted that besides me, 'Behenji' should also get Narco test done. She didn't agree to that. (Behenji ne mujh par yaun shoshan ka aarop lagaya tha. Maine kaha tha mai jaanch ke liye taiyaar hu, mai narco test ke liye taiyaar hu, meri shart yeh hai ki narco test behenji ka bhi hona chahiye, mera bhi hona chahiye. Wo nahi mani)," Shivpal Yadav said while addressing a rally here.
"You can't trust people who sell tickets. Who used to abuse Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav)? She used to call them 'gunde'. Today they are calling themselves as one. Can she be trusted? She won't win many seats."

3. Yogi Adityanath

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath claimed the recently forged alliance between the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party will have no impact on the state's politics and the BJP will "effectively wipe them off". Speaking at a programme here, Adityanath said the SP-BSP alliance denoted "casteist mentality" and "anarchic elements".

"The alliance means giving power to people who are corrupt, anarchic elements and have casteist mentality. This alliance will have no impact on the politics of the state. "It is good that both these parties have come together. It will help us effectively wipe them off," he asserted. The priest-turned-politician also went on to say, "Why are SP and BSP different parties? They should be merged". Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party, an ally of the ruling BJP, appeared to differ with Adityanath's assessment. It said the SP-BSP alliance will put up a strong fight in Lok Sabha elections. "The country is witnessing an era of coalition, and no party has the courage to go to the polls alone.

Union minister J P Nadda on Wednesday exuded confidence that the BJP will win 74 Lok Sabha seats out of 80 in Uttar Pradesh and downplayed the SP-BSP alliance in the state for the general elections.

At a meeting with senior office bearers of the party here, Nadda, who is on his first visit to the Uttar Pradesh capital after being appointed the BJP's election in-charge for the state, said the party will register a handsome win in the Lok Sabha polls and all records will be broken.
"We shall increase our tally of Lok Sabha seats from the state by winning 74 seats, one more than last time," he told reporters later.

In the 2014 general elections, the BJP had won 71 Lok Sabha seats in the state and two other went to its ally - the Apna Dal.
Asked about the party's strategy for the polls this time, Nadda said, "Strategy is not meant to be disclosed and will be unveiled at the battleground only." "The people of Uttar Pradesh and the country will shower tremendous blessings on the BJP and their will be an all-time record victory. Not 73, but our tally will be 74 seats (in UP)."

"The reasons for this is the inclination and affection of the people towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the various welfare works done by the Central government in the past four-and-half years. Apart from this, BJP president Amit Shah's strategy will also lead us to victory," Nadda said.
