Security has been tightened in Ayodhya ahead of the separate events of Shiv Sena and VHP being organised in the city today over the matter of  the construction of a Ram Temple.

"We’ve made all the arrangements for the programme (VHP’s dharma sansad). We’ve allotted spaces for parking, bypass is running smoothly and we will ensure it stays like that. ‘Darshan’ will be from the usual routes. We’ll do everything in an organized way," DIG Ayodhya Omkar Singh told news agency ANI.

Earlier,  Additional Director General (ADG) of Police Anand Kumar said, "The state government and the District Administration have made elaborate security arrangements to maintain law and order in the city and the adjoining areas. Our endeavour is to ensure the programmes are held peacefully and the Supreme Court's guidelines to maintain status quo regarding the place of worship is not violated. Heavy deployment of security forces has been made ahead of the proposed rallies of different Hindu outfits."

To ensure things are kept under control, Ayodhya has been divided into zones and sectors. All the deployment of security forces has been done as per the proper planning. The whole idea is to ensure all the programmes are conducted in a peaceful manner.

Earlier, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray who arrived in Ayodhya Saturday afternoon along with his family for his two-day visit at the temple town demanded from the government a date when the construction of Ram Temple would begin.

Humein aaj mandir banne ki tareekh chahiye. Pehle mandir kab banaoge wo batao, baaki baatein to baad me hoti rahengi. Aaj mujhe tareekh chahiye (We need a date when the construction of the temple would begin. First tell us when you will build the temple, other things will be discussed later. I need a date today)," the Shiv Sena president said in Ayodhya

Thackeray arrived in Ayodhya earlier today with his wife Rashmi and son Aditya amidst slogans of "Jai Shri Ram".

The temple town will also witness another major congregation of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists Sunday who will be taking part in a Dharam Sabha.

The Shiv Sena, which has demanded expediting the construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya by promulgating an ordinance to the effect, is believed to have sent some 3,000 Shiv Sena supporters by two trains from Maharashtra.
