The BJP is likely to lose in all three upcoming Assembly Elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, CVoter survey conducted by a prominent news channel predicted today.

According to the survey, the BJP’s loss will be gain for Congress as the Rahul Gandhi-led party is predicted to win 117 out of 230 seats in MP, 54 out of 90 seats in Chhattisgarh and 130 out of 200 seats in Rajasthan.

If these predictions translate into reality, this would be a major boost for Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party on state as well as national level. At present, the Grand Old Party has governments in just four states – Karnataka (in coalition with JDS); Punjab, Puducherry and Mizoram.

All three states are currently ruled by the BJP – Rajasthan under Vasundhara Raje, Madhya Pradesh under Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and Chhattisgarh under Raman Singh

However, the survey predicts that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is still the first choice for the top post, while Congress chief comes distant second.

Despite the loss in the Assembly Elections, the survey says the Modi factor will help BJP in these states during the Lok Sabha polls.

Meanwhile, seeking to evolve a consensus on holding simultaneous election to Lok Sabha and state assemblies, the government is mulling convening an all-party meeting on the issue after the Law Commission recommends a legal framework on the matter.

Sources in the government said an all-party meeting could be convened in the coming days to widen the ambit of discussion among politicians on the issue of simultaneous polls.

But no final decision has been taken as yet on convening the meet. The government, they said, is awaiting the report of the law panel which would lay down the legal framework of holding the two elections together.

They said once the report is with the government, it will have broad talking points.
