The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah has reportedly asked party workers to be prepared to fight upcoming Lok Sabha and Maharashtra state assembly elections on its own after the Shiv Sena abstained from participating in Friday’s no-trust vote against Narendra Modi government, and also praised Rahul Gandhi for his speech.

On Friday, the no-confidence motion against the Modi government was defeated by a margin of 325-126. The no-trust motion moved by former BJP ally TDP saw Shiv Sena abstaining from voting.

Shah, who was on a day's visit to Mumbai, addressed party meetings and shared a 23-point plan with the party workers to prepare in advance to go it alone.

According to reports, upset over Shiv Sena’s praise of Rahul Gandhi’s speech, Shah has asked party workers to prepare to contest 2019 on their own strength

However, he also said that party leadership would take the decision on an alliance with the Shiv Sena.

Shah, who was accompanied by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, state BJP chief Raosabheb Danve and Mumbai unit party president Ashish Shelar, asked the party cadre to strengthen the organisation at the grassroot level.

BJP sources said Shah exhorted party workers to work hard to win the 2019 elections, strengthen the BJP at the grassroots and ensure that government schemes reach the masses

Booth-level functionaries were also asked to work honestly for the party and stay in touch with people, including through social media networks like WhatsApp groups.

The BJP is aiming at creating a network of 25 activists in each of the around 91,000 electoral booths in Maharashtra.

A senior BJP leader said Shah had asked booth level workers to keep a fleet of around five bikes ready in every booth to be used for organisational work and for bike rallies during the elections.

On Friday, Even the Modi government won the trust vote, BJP's bitter ally, drawing a parallel between the FIFA World Cup final and the no-confidence motion, said Modi might have emerged victorious like France, but Congress chief Rahul Gandhi won many hearts like runners-up Croatia.

Praising Gandhi, Shiv Sena had said that the Congress leader should be congratulated for donning a new avatar during the debate in the Lok Sabha after a combative Gandhi launched a vitriolic attack on the Modi government on multiple issues, from farmer distress to the Rafale jet deal.

On June 7, in an exclusive interview with Zee 24 Taas Editor-in-Chief Vijay Kuvalekar, Shah re-iterated that BJP and Shiv Sena would contest 2019 Lok Sabha elections as well as Assembly elections in Maharashtra together.
