Facing rebellion, People's Democratic Party (PDP) has embarked on a goal to reach out to its workers to stem the rot and strengthen the party at the grassroots level.

Former chief minister and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti chaired a meeting of party leaders of Central Kashmir region at her Fairview residence at Gupkar road in Srinagar."The meeting was aimed at reaching out to the workers and receive their feedback", said a party leader

Besides the legislators of central Kashmir, the meeting was attended by office-bearers of Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal districts. The meeting is part of series planned to reach out to the workers on the ground to raise their morale after the fall of the government.

Sources said party plans to cover all the districts and regions to clear the misgivings about leadership and give a personal touch in a bid to negate the propaganda of rebels that the PDP has been turned into a dynastic fiefdom.

The meeting comes a day after PDP rebel MLA from Noorabad constituency Abdul Majeed Padder claimed to have support of 51 MLAs to form the next government in Jammu and Kashmir and complete the six-year term of the current Assembly.

In the 87 member Legislative assembly, the political formation needs 44 members for simple majority to form the government. PDP is the single largest party with 28 members followed by BJP with 25 MLAs. National Conference has 15 and Congress 12 members in the House. Former separatist leader led People’s Conference has two MLAs while CPIM and PDF have one member each. Rest are the independents.

Another rebel Imran Reza Ansari met Jammu and Kashmir governor NN Vohra on Saturday. “Governor urged Ansari to continue his efforts for promoting a peaceful environment in his area and work zealously for advancing the interests of J&K”, said the official spokesman after the meeting.
