Fake Rs 2000 notes printed in Pakistan, pushed into India through India-Bangladesh border: Report

Printed in Pakistan and pushed into India through the India-Bangladesh border, the Border Security Force (BSF) last week seized at least 40 fake notes of Rs 2000, reported Indian Express.

The amount was seized on February 8 in Murshidabad from Azizur Rahman (26), who hails from Malda in West Bengal.

The accused told the investigators that that the notes were printed in Pakistan, allegedly with the help of the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), and had been smuggled across the border from Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, the BSF is in talks with Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for imparting of training to its troopers for identifying fake notes smuggled through Indo-Bangla border.

The paramilitary force and intelligence agencies are having sleepless nights over consignments of counterfeit Rs 2,000 notes being seized from the border in past one month.

"The amount of counterfeit notes that has been recovered by security agencies is a matter of concern. The security features have been expertly replicated, half of the security features of the new Rs 2,000 notes is there in the fake notes. We are in talks with RBI for a training program for our soldiers," said a senior BSF official.

Sugglers were reportedly required to pay Rs 400-600 in genuine currency for each fake Rs 2,000 note, sources said Citing interrogation records.
