We are deep into Valentine’s Day week now and Promise Day is the fifth day of the week which falls on 11^th February. It’s one of the most special days of this romantic week, a day on which one promises to be always there for their loved one, in times difficult and good. The Valentine's week celebration begins from February 7 and goes on till February 14. But, the actual American tradition of sending Valentine's greeting originated in Mount Holyoke College in 1847. Esther Howland (1828-1904) graduated from Mount Holyoke Female Seminary in 1847, she was inspired by an ornate English valentine sent to her by a family friend to create her own elaborate renditions of the greeting card. Each year, the Mount Holyoke Archives and Special Collections displays its collection of valentines in honour of the Worcester, Ma., native. So, let's take forward the tradition that was initially introduced by celebrating Valentine's week.
