A group of BJP workers thrashed law enforcement authorities while going for PM Modi's rally in Midnapore on Thursday. Apart from civic police personnel, a senior police official was badly attacked which lead to massive tension in Kharagpore's Chowrangi crossing, reports Zee 24 Ghanta.

The incident happened around 11 AM on Monday. The workers couldn't reach the venue of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally due to heavy traffic on the route. Car of the workers was stopped on National High Way 6, and they subsequently lose their cool. BJP workers attacked civic police personnel who were handling the traffic flow. When senior police officers tried to intervene, they were also not spared.

Additonal police super Y Raghuvanshi was attacked. He was chased down and thrashed by the goon. TMC flags across the street were also desecrated by the BJP workers. District police super has strongly condemned the incident. BJP state chief Dilip Ghosh has promised action against the miscreants. He said police was stopping cars of BJP workers, hence they got agitated. However, attacking police officers is strongly condemnable and the party will act against them, said Ghosh.

About 90 people were injured, 66 of them seriously, when a makeshift tent collapsed and triggered a stampede at College Ground in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district where over 70,000 people were listening to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech on Monday.

The canopy next to the main entrance of the venue had weakened due to incessant rain since morning. It collapsed as a section of the crowd tried to climb up to have a glimpse of Modi, prompting him to ask them to be careful. Modi stopped in the middle of his speech when the structure caved in. “Those who have climbed up, please get down, all of you... Don’t run,” he said.

He instructed security personnel next to him to look after the injured. They were rushed to hospital on motorcycles and even by his doctor, Special Protection Group personnel and in ambulance that follows his convoy. Modi later visited the injured at Midnapore Medical College and Hospital.
