According to QS, Mumbai University has established its name in industrial collaborations and runs various professional courses. At the national level, it has excelled in sports, cultural and outreach activities.
As per the latest QS University rankings for Asia, Mumbai University stands at No.1 rank among traditional universities in Maharashtra; in India, it is at 2nd place. In Asia, MU stands at rank No. 125, higher compared to last year's 131 rank.
According to QS, Mumbai University has established its name in industrial collaborations and runs various professional courses. At the national level, it has excelled in sports, cultural and outreach activities.
In the last five years, the university has seen a 104% increase in undergraduate students, 112% increase in postgraduate students and 147% increase in distance education students. There is a 156% increase in the number of research papers published in international journals.
Additionally, more than 80 teachers are on various professional bodies; 18 awards, including national and international ones, have been won by teachers in the last five years.
Rankings considering the faculty areas, the arts and humanities takes lead at the 93rd position in Asian ranking with a score of 16.3. The engineering and technology faculty was between 201 and 300 in Asian ranking at 7.1; Life sciences and medicine ranked 172 in Asia at 9; natural sciences ranked 142 in Asia with a score of 9.3; social sciences and management ranked 107.
Dr Rajan Welukar, MU vice-chancellor said: "The QS ranking of the University has improved consistently over the past five years. It is due to stimulating intellectual and administrative efforts of my colleagues and sincere efforts of dear students. This trend suggests that it is not a distance dream to rank amongst the first 100 in the near future."
